Vancouver Island Fishclub - The Story Continues
Vancouver Island Fishclub started in 2017 with a simple idea. Not to build just another clothing brand, but to create something that represented the lifestyle, culture, and values we grew up around here on Vancouver Island.
Fishing has always been bigger than just catching fish to us. It’s early mornings at the dock. Long runs offshore before sunrise. Welded aluminum boats. Salt on the windshield. Cold coffee in the cupholder. Stories told at the cleaning table after dark.
It’s family, friends, tradition, and respect for the outdoors.
From the beginning, Fishclub was about bridging the gap between generations, introducing younger people to the outdoors while keeping the knowledge, culture, and respect for our fisheries alive.
Over the last year or so, we intentionally stepped back from social media. Life got busy in the best ways possible. Families grew, careers evolved, and we focused on being present with our families and building our lives.
But Fishclub never stopped moving forward.
We continued creating, donating, and supporting conservation initiatives behind the scenes.
Five Fish. One Bigger Purpose.
For every item purchased through Fishclub, we ensure five salmon are released back into Vancouver Island waters through enhancement and hatchery programs. It’s something we’re incredibly proud of.
Recently, we had the opportunity to spend time at Goldstream Provincial Park, helping release thousands of coho smolts alongside volunteers, families, local conservation groups, and kids experiencing it all for the very first time.
This was a pretty special day for us.
Standing in the river, watching thousands of young salmon begin their journey toward the ocean, really puts things into perspective. These are the same waters and fisheries that shaped our childhoods, and now we’re getting to play a small part in protecting them for the next generation.
What made the experience even more meaningful was seeing the kids involved. Some weren’t even born when Fishclub started in 2017. Now they’re standing in the river, learning about salmon, getting their hands wet, and taking part in something that will hopefully stay with them for years to come.
It’s exactly what we envisioned when we started Fishclub - bridging generations through fishing, conservation, and a shared respect for the outdoors.
We were also fortunate enough to contribute another $500 toward these efforts. But beyond the donation, the biggest takeaway was seeing firsthand the incredible dedication of the volunteers and organizations who make these programs possible. So much of this work happens quietly, year after year, with very little recognition.
Being there reminded us that Five Fish is about more than putting salmon back into our waters. It’s about supporting the people doing the work and helping ensure these opportunities exist for future generations.
2026 - Collaborations and Community
2026 has been a pretty awesome year for Fishclub.
We had the opportunity to collaborate with Vancouver Island Brewing, bringing together two local brands to create something unique that directly supports salmon enhancement. Alongside the collaboration, we introduced some new co-branded apparel and brought back a few throwback hats inspired by the early days of Fishclub.
The Nootka Marine Adventures Salmon Enhancement Derby was another huge success. We’re proud to continue supporting the event as Gold Sponsors and seeing the millions of dollars it has helped direct toward salmon enhancement, habitat restoration, and conservation throughout the region.
We’re also in the early stages of conversations with Ocean Wise, exploring opportunities to build new relationships and expand our involvement in marine conservation.
Still Building
At its core, Fishclub is still a passion project.
It’s an opportunity to create things we believe in, connect with great people, and give back to the waters that have given us so much.
We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported us since 2017, whether you’ve purchased something, volunteered, attended an event, fished in a derby or simply followed along.
If our kids get to experience the same wild salmon runs, rivers, and connection to the outdoors that we grew up with, then all of this is worth it.
Still here. Still building. Still giving back.
